Seasonal Maintenance
Beyond attracting customers, this page aims to provide valuable information about basic seasonal maintenance. Proper upkeep not only prolongs the life of your equipment but also ensures it operates efficiently when you need it most.
- After the end of the season, drain the fuel from the tank of your machine or turn the fuel off (if equipped), and run engine dry. We suggest running seafoam in your gas prior to draining your machine for the season to avoid a clogged carbuerator.
- Change/clean your air filter every season or every year, be sure to order the correct one for your machine. If you cant see through it, its time to change it.
- Change oil yearly and check oil frequently and top up as needed to avoid internal damage. If it looks darker or black, change it according to manufacture spec. Usually SAE 30 or 10w30 for riding mowers.
- Sharpen and balance blades every season, or as necessary.

Common Small Engine Problems
At Woodinville Saws and Mowers, we often see small engine problems stemming from a few common issues. The most frequent culprits include clogged carburetors, the use of old fuel, and lack of maintenance. Regularly addressing these issues can significantly extend the life of your equipment.
- Clogged carbuerators. This is one of the most common issues with small engines and it occurs when fuel is left in machines causing varnish to build up in the carbuerator and partially or fully clogging the main jet and preventing your machine from running properly or running at all.
- Lack of maintenance. This can lead to poorly running machines, excessive internal wear, poor cutting quality, and poor preformance. Its important to service your machines year round to ensure a full equipment lifespan and reliable operation.
